Farewell to Lance

Lance gave an amazing farewell talk on Sunday, and I am so grateful we were there. I only ugly cried once, when he gave me a shoutout and cried through my name. He was set apart after church, and I was just so so proud of him. We all flew back to Salt Lake Sunday night, and it was sad to say goodbye, but Tuesday we got to pick Elder Bunch up from the airport! He stayed with us Tuesday night and Colton and I took him to the MTC on Wednesday.
Calgary is one lucky place! What a remarkable man my brother has become.

Lance's buddies that came for his farewell talk. Most of them aren't LDS. Such a great missionary already!
Lance even got Thom Cook to cry

Colorado

Colton and I went out to Colorado for ourselves for a week before Jared joined us, and we had a BLAST!

First off, on the airplane, Colton got his own seat! He was such a big boy with his seatbelt on, and we sat next to the sweetest girl in the world who loved playing with him the whole time.
We loved hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa, and of COURSE Uncle Lance. By the end of the week Colton was saying "N-ya, n-ya" and that meant "Lance".
We went out to a delicious Mexican Restaurant one night and Colton loved his quesadillas. By the end of dinner though he was bored, so he went to Grandma, and we decided to give him a lemon. Lo and behold they are apparently his favorite thing ever because he DEVOURED about 5 lemon wedges. It was so funny the whole restaurant was watching him.
Of course we always see some wildlife. The Baby deer right in the front yard, and the litter (?) of wild baby turkeys down the street
Lance and I got to see a movie while Grandma watched Colton, and the next day while grocery shopping the funniest thing of Colton's life happened when Damon repeatedly knocked over the juice. He had everyone giggling

On Saturday we went to the HUGE Renaissance Festival down in Larkspur, it was seriously the size of Disneyland and it was amazing!

Saturday night we did a little get together for Lance, he had a bunch of friends over, and the Cooks came over and we had a feast! Also, after a week of 5-6 steps, Colton finally took off walking. 7/25/15, about 2 weeks before his 1st birthday.

Also this picture happened with spaghetti and it is hysterical

11 Months

This kid is steppin!! He will take 2-3 steps on his own, and then voluntarily fall to his knees
He is happy and sleeping better and is hilarious. He absolutely loves making me laugh. He loves to lift up his shirt to cover his eyes so I say "Where's Colton??" and he whips it down and I yell "BOO!"

He is so curious, and he loves buttons and screws and any hole that he can fit his tiny fingers in (including his nose). Bench in front of us at church? One finger must push all the screw covers. Charis? One finger must poke the screws. Buttons, light switches, anything that looks like he can push it with one finger he will, it is hilarious.
He can say "mama" "dada" and "more", and his favorite song is still Uptown Funk. He could watch that video for hours.
He also loves "If you're happy and you know it", and loves when I tickle his cheeks for "then your face will truly show it"

He has also developed a LOVE for stories. I have never liked reading to kids (I know I know...) and I haven't been very good at reading with Colton, but he will grab books, and sit and flip through them quietly for a good while! This is one of my absolute favorite pictures. Naked and reading, now that's happiness.

His best friend is Declan. They absolutely love to play together, and they get so excited to see each other and they give hugs and kisses. It is so fun watching them because they are so close in age!
I am LOVING 11 months, could I just have 11 month olds pretty please?

Colton's First Haircut

Our shaggy kid was looking a little too welfare lookin so we decided to take him to our trusty hair dresser Nicole for his first haircut!
It went really fast, she just cleaned up the back and sides a bit. He was quiet and curious the whole time, and did really well!
I'm pleased with the way it turned out! Such a sweet boy.

Colton's First 4th

4th of July weekend Jared had Friday off, so we packed a picnic and headed to the mountains to Pine View Reservoir. It was absolutely STUNNING, a hidden gem! Only about 40 minutes from us, and the drive was beautiful. We set up our chairs and umbrellas and swam in the lake. Colton had a total blast. He loved watching all the other kids play on the beach, splashing, and being spun around by dad. Then we would go dry off on the towel and he could eat crackers and drink his water to his heart's content. I feel like this was the first activity we've gotten to do as a family that Colton really enjoyed, and it was so fun watching him experience it!

On the actual 4th of July we had a delicious BBQ, and watched Independence Day. Colton went to bed early, but when the fireworks started around 9 we couldn't resist waking him up to see them. He was absolutely enamored, not afraid at all. Since fireworks are legal in Utah, there were probably 9 shows going off within a 3 block radius of our house, so we stood in the front yard and watched the fireworks all around us. Colton would hear one go off and whip his head around to see them go off. It was amazing to see the wonder in his eyes and experiencing one of my favorite things for the first time.
